Michael J. Coren

We live in interesting times. I try to make sense of them.

I write a climate advice column at the Washington Post called the Climate Coach. Before joining the Post, I spent nearly two decades as a reporter and editor covering climate, technology, and economics. For a while, I ran a startup and sailed a tall ship.

I started off in newspapers at the Vero Beach Press Journal, Palm Beach Post, and the San Jose Mercury News before shipping off to Cambodia to report for ThPhnom Penh Post. I later served as the managing editor.

My byline has appeared at The Economist, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, Outside, TheAtlantic.com, Voice of America, The Globe and Mail, FastCompany, and elsewhere.

I love writing about science, society and economics, especially wicked problems like learning to live on Earth in the age of climate change.

Over the last decade, I’ve written about everything from Amazon’s monopolistic practices and the simple math behind Elon Musk’s companies to the cost of refueling your EV in all 50 states and the surprising benefits of switching of “lamb mowers.”
